Our Drug Detection Technology

Chemicals in wastewater samples are separated based on their polarity and eluted into a mass spectrometer at different times. Drugs of abuse that enter the mass spectrometer are ionized and move through three different quadrupoles that filter and fragment the analytes before they are measured by the detector.

Panel consists of 9 total analytes including five parent targets and five metabolites. Parent targets include methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, naloxone, and nicotine. Metabolites consist of amphetamine (metabolite for methamphetamine), benzoylecgonine (metabolite for cocaine), norfentanyl (metabolite for fentanyl), 6-alpha naloxol and naloxone-3beta-glucuronide (metabolites for naloxone). Classifications include stimulants and opiates.

Are drugs of abuse quantified?

Yes, our detection method is quantitative. Please contact our technical support team for specific information regarding analyte quantification.

What is the limit of detection (LoD)?

The limit of detection (LoD) for the majority of our targets is on the order of nanograms per liter (ng/L) in a 50 mL sample. Please contact technical support for more detailed information.

Are any internal controls used?

Yes, we used deuterated internal standards for all targets. If a target does not have an internal standard commercially available, we use a proxy with a similar chemical structure.

How soon after placing an order can I expect delivery of the sample collection kit? When will results be available?

Sample collection kits are shipped within 5 business days of wastewater service orders. Overnight return shipping is included with all GTM service orders. Testing results are available within 1 week of sample receipt.
